Now waiting for the next hiccup!

Tuesday 24th April. Camped by another crystal clear river with chaps fishing along the banks. Awoke to Church bells ringing at 7am [they seem to like ringing the bells in Slovenia – I hear them again now at 7pm!] Had breakfast then discovered water all over the floor which meant the pipe under the sink was leaking! Nothing could be done until jubilee clips were purchased so turned off pump and set off on bikes to discover the lake. So lovely cycling along by the beautiful river with pretty woodland flowers, little bridges and the sun shining between the trees which are every shade of green. Lake Bohinj although nice is quite ordinary compared to Bled. On the way back we cycled through lush green meadows with random stacks of wood in peoples’ yards and in the fields. More than half of Slovenia is covered by forest and saw mills are plentiful. Neil purchased jubilee clips then we drove southwards over the Julien alps which were spectacular if a bit scary in places. A fare amount of snow around at 4.200 feet. Nearly at our destination in Postojna when a car appeared in front of us saying ‘Follow Me, Toll Inspection!’ Oh dear! Oh dear! We hadn’t purchased a vignette at the border [we did see a sign but the place to purchase one was closed] Anyway the lady fined us 150 euros when it should have been 300 which the guy who was with her kept telling her, so I guess we got off lightly! Neil now mending pipe and will then plan out tomorrow when we visit the caves which apparently are jaw dropping. We shall see….

Mijet the midget (The queen of the blues) Blue campers?

Saturday 5 th May. We broke camp at Stobrec and headed along the coast road towards Dubrovnik. Wonderful views down over the cliffs to small village harbours and then a wide vale with large river. Here there were citrus and olive groves and fig trees with other horticultural products as well. We bought from a roadside stall tangerines, lemon and figs. They also had a lot of honey for sale, peppers, olive oil and a blue liquor. (not sure what it was made from) We eventually reached the little ferry terminal at Papratna on the Peljasic peninsula. We took the ferry to Sobra on the Island of Mijet. It had now started to rain with thunder and lightning. Our camp site guide only indicated one site on Mijet at Marina Ropa. Having found the place by using co-ordinates it was deserted and no evidence of a marina. A young girl was cleaning the ablution block – unisex and said her Mum was coming. She told us it was no problem to camp, you have electric and hot water all for 120 Kuna (£15)...
